Nursery!

Nursery from doorway
Hi friends! The nursery is basically done! We're still waiting on the area rug but only God knows when that will come in. :)
In the meantime, I took some shots of the space to share here. Sorry for the long post, it's lots of pictures! You can also view the slideshow of the nursery at my flickr page here.

We had our $9 Salvation Army thrifted swivel-rocker chair custom-fit with a yellow/white slipcover and we're pleased with how it came out! I added some fabric in embroidery hoops to the wall by the chair to add more warmth to the space. It's a fun and inexpensive way to add art. A favorite detail of mine is the "hooray" banner above the shelving unit...it's a word I love and it adds to the goal of making the room cheerful. I got it from Caitlin at her Etsy shop called Nice. Check it out, she's got some lovely things there. If anyone has any questions about where things came from, please feel free to leave a comment below and I will be happy to leave a comment below in return. I hope you like it! More importantly, I hope Little P will like it! Much love to you!

  2. Absolutely adorable nursery. Did you make the valances yourself? Also, where did you get that too-cute-for-words elephant hamper?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Thanks guys! Stephanie, the valances are from Wal-Mart (but only online). The elephant hamper is from Home Decorators online. Here's the link:

  6. Just linked through from Ohdeeoh and this room is so precious I can hardly stand it!!! I'm working on a room for my little girl and her almost-here new baby sister and have been struggling to find just the right shade of light blue/aqua - care to share the name of that delightfully serene color you used on the wall??

  12. Really sweet and lovely nursery for your little one on the way! Where did you find the lamp shades? Or did you make them yourself?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow! Everyone is so sweet!!! Thank you so much! :)
To answer a few questions: The paint color is from Benjamin Moore and it's #618 called "Robin's Nest." The lamps came from Wal-Mart (online) and the shades on them came from Anthropologie. (I just switched out what came with the lamp originally). They were a splurge to say the least, but they will always be used. I wish I could say I made them myself, but I need to learn to sew. :) Also, the mobile came from: http://www.modernnursery.com
in the mobile section. It comes with the string to put it together, but it was a nightmare (too transparent and then so you couldn't see it to make the knots nor could it really be held firmly, so we almost pulled our hair out. We threw it out and used regular fishing line which was SO much easier to use. Spare yourself the frustration.

  14. Love the room! Where did you get the adorable lime green plastic doggie? Thanks.

  15. Yellow and aqua are the colors we're using for our nursery too! I haven't started on it yet (we're still in a one bedroom apt) so it's great to see these as a reference point!

  16. so so so gorgeous. you did a great job.

    i'm so excited for you!

  17. Where did you get that great yellow bedding? I would love to find something similar for my daughter's "big girl bed". Great room!

    ReplyDelete
  18. oh gosh that yellow chair is exactly what i've been on the hunt for....do you mind my asking how much it costs to custom fit something like that?

  19. i just saw your pics on ohdeedoh and came to your blog. your little p's nursery is absolutely adorable. i am in love with the bright colors. you did an excellent job. that baby is going to love it in there.

i also liked your green oldnavy coat turned maternity!

  20. I love, love, LOVE!!!! your nursery!! How cute and pleasant!

You did a wonderful job choosing colors that are complimenting and soothing. If this were my son's nursery, I'd never want to leave it!!!

I found you via the Domino group on Flickr. The colors caught my attention, as well as the rattan elephant (love it!).

My aunt just redid her laundry room in similar colors and I'm thinking of doing my office in the same color scheme.

  21. Meg!!! I am speechless. It is truly a masterpiece! I love how refreshing and airy it is. I wish I could walk into it as I bet it just forces you to feel calm. I love love love the art above the crib and the mobile. So beautiful. You are very talented sweetie. I would love to see pics of the rest of your house! I also love how we haev the same shelfing unit in our nurseries! yay! haha.

    well done.

  22. Thanks everyone! Anonymous, I got the doggie at www.modernnursery.com in the lighting section. It's a bright yellow, and they have several colors they offer. Bethany, the bedding is by Nursery Works. It's on sale right now at:
    http://www.fawnandforest.com/designers/130/products/560-nurseryworks-macaroni-canary-crib-set

J.J. Killins: The custom fit was very pricey for the slip cover. UGH. I got it made via Calico Corners and was around $620 or so. The cost of a new chair! But, the chair was $9 and I couldn't find anything else out there that matched what I wanted so I treat it like a custom-made chair or like a bought it new. I bet if I had gone directly to the upholsterer who did it, it might have cost less. (less markup, I'm sure.) I've learned my lesson!

  23. Gorgeous! This is just what I would want in a nursery - I'm going to save all of these pictures to reference when I have a baby! So warm, sunny, friendly, and inviting. I seriously love every aspect of "Little P"'s room :) In fact, I loved it so much I've just shared it on my own blog as well. Thank you for the awesome inspiration. Little P will be one lucky girl to have a Mama like you!

(and thanks for sharing the paint color - I'm totally writing that one down!)

  24. love the hamper, and i had actually recently seen this on another blog and was planning on purchasing it for my baby's room...could you tell me if yours is the medium or large? the large seems awfully large but yours looks so nice next to the crib...thanks so much in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kelly, the hamper we chose is the honey color in the medium size. I felt like the large was going to be too huge but the small seemed so mini! I'm happy with the size. And the laundry bag liner is velcro-ed around the top edge for easy removal (they don't mention that on the site).

    ReplyDelete
  27. Your nursery is beautiful! Glad I found your blog today...I am due a few weeks after you. Best wishes in the next few months!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mollyprange: I got the dresser at Ikea and covered some of the drawer-fronts with seagress wallpaper. My husband gave me the owl lamp for Christmas...it is from Anthropologie. They make a similar one shaped like a snail as well.

  29. saw your link on ohdeedoh. the nursery looks amazing. i think we're due around the same time and i'm totally impressed with how much you've accomplished. our nursery is pretty much an empty room at this point!

  30. Such a gorgeous space! I wish I had your decorating eye.

I noticed you mentioned that Modern Nursery had a sale on your bedding. I'm in LOVE with one of their mobiles but it's pretty expensive. Any tips on how I can get it on sale? I'm due in late June so I have some time. Did you keep checking their site, or was there a sale annoucement?

    Thanks!

  31. Also found you through OhDeeDoh. I've been dreaming about my baby daughter's future room when we move to a 3-bedroom someday (she shares with her brother) and have been keeping a file of ideas. Your great pictures are at the top for sure! I can tell you put so much love into the room and yet it still has an effortless quality about it--like, "yeah, I'm gorgeous but no big deal!"

Anyway congratulations on your pregnancy. I skimmed through a few past posts and it looks like you have been waiting many years for this. Enjoy this sweet time as you wait for your precious little girl to arrive!

  38. Megan,
would you mind letting me know how you covered the drawers with seagrass wallpaper? We're going to do it this weekend for our baby's dresser. thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Mollyprange:
I traced the drawer fronts onto the seagrass wallpaper and trimmed them out. I glued them on the faces of the drawers using Mod Podge glue. To prevent bubbles underneath I smoothed the paper with my hands/pressed it from the center and worked my way out a zillion times to make sure it was nice and flat/flush with no bubbles. Also careful not to use too much glue. If there was any overhanging paper, I flipped the drawer face over onto a big piece of cardboard and used a very sharp Xacto knife to just trim off the excess from the edges. My lovely husband then assembled the dresser. :) Good luck!

  40. Meg, This is beyond beautiful! It's getting a whole lotta love over at Ohdeedoh too! How exciting. I can't get enough of your color combination, so fresh and bright! That is one lucky babe!

If you would prefer I not use the photo and link to you, please let me know and I'll be happy to take it down. 65. I love love love your nursery. So lovely and creative. Any chance anyone has a clue where one can find that gorgeous bedding now? (It's discontinued! I'm heartbroken!) And I love what you did with the Ikea dresser. IS that really wallpaper? It looks like wood. Was this very difficult to do (assume I'm not terribly handy at these things.)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Bec,
Thanks so much!! Sorry about the bedding. I bought it on sale last year in December (of 2008) and at that time, the bedding was on a deep sale/discount since they were getting rid of it. As for the dresser, yep! It's wallpaper. I bought a roll online and just traced the drawerfronts onto the paper before assembling the dresser. Then, I used Mod Podge all over the back of the paper (after cutting it out) and stuck it on each drawerfront and allowed to dry. (I made sure to press the paper down very evenly all over and really worked out any air bubbles). Then, my handy husband assembled the dresser. It was pretty easy overall. You just need a good amount of workspace and some time to do it. Good luck!

So I am planning to use the same Robin's Nest paint in my nursery, and was wondering if you remember the color of the trim? Of course, there are a million different versions of white, and I thought it might be easier to ask you then experiment myself!

    Thanks so much!
